This Love – Maroon 5
She Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
I was so high I did not recognize
The fire burning in her eyes
The chaos that controlled my mind
Whispered goodbye and she got on a plane
Never to return again
But always in my heart
Nikolai walked around with a stoic look. Everyone veered away from him as he trudged through the snow. It had been a few months since he had last heard from her. He was a little nervous of why she didn’t respond to his letters. He sighed and figured that it might be because she was bored of him or she thought he was creepy. They did exchange photos of one another a while ago before the letters stopped.
This love has taken its toll on me
She said Goodbye too many times before
And her heart is breaking in front of me
I have no choice cause I won't say goodbye anymore
Minsk was full of snow like usual whenever winter rolled around. A lot of the tourists freaked out about the amount and everyone else shrugged at the casual whether. Nikolai thought it was normal for it to be so cold and white but people who ventured from outside the country or the area thought otherwise. He watched a few girls complaining about how cold it was and his heart sank. A couple of the girls reminded him of her.
I tried my best to feed her appetite
Keep her coming every night
So hard to keep her satisfied
Kept playing love like it was just a game
Pretending to feel the same
Then turn around and leave again
When he returned home, he was too down to even say hello to his brother and sister. He skulked his way to his room without even alerting them, which was what he usually did. His sister walked to the door to see if he had come home and started to look around the house. She noticed his room was closed and ran off to hide in the kitchen.
“Alex!” She whined. “Nikolai’s home!!”
“Olga.” Alexander smiled. “He’s probably worried about his penpal. She hasn’t written a letter back to him yet.”
“But isn’t she…?” Olga asked.

Nikolai stared at the sunflower on his nightstand the Olga had given him, mostly to leave her alone. He stared at it with his furrowed violet eyes. He walked over it the stand and picked the flower from its vase. He watched as a few drops of water dripped into the vase and as it came to a stop he crawled back onto his bed and started to pluck the yellow petals from it.
“Nikolai!” Alexander called out. “I’m going out! Do you need anything?”
Nikolai concentrated on one of the petals he took, ignoring what his brother needed. He could hear Alexander’s sigh and the door closing. He looked outside his window and watched him head back into town.
I'll fix these broken things
Repair your broken wings
And make sure everything's alright
My pressure on your hips
Sinking my fingertips
Into every inch of you
Cause I know that's what you want me to do
“He wasn’t kidding when he said it’s freezing in Belarus.” You shivered as you waited for your ride to appear.
You felt so bad that you weren’t able to write Nikolai back in a couple of months. You’ve had school exams of every type shooting in your direction so you didn’t even have time to relax. You figured if you explained this to Nikolai, he’d understand. You looked at the picture you grasped in your hand and blushed.

“Are you, Miss [Name]?” A blonde haired man asked. You looked up and smiled at him.
“You must be Alexander?” You asked.
“Da.” He laughed nervously.
Alexander helped but your stuff in the back of his car and helped you into the car. You were a little surprised by his mannerisms. It was nothing Nikolai said. Come to think of it, he only mentioned his siblings names and nothing more.
“Nikolai’s very upset that you weren’t able to write back.” Alexander said after a while.
“Well, I was really busy with school and stuff.” You said. “And I figured he’d be happier if I told him in person.”
“Sounds like a plan to me.” Alexander smiled.

“Not… Da… Not… Da… Not….” Nikolai muttered as a small collection of golden petals made a pile on his bed sheets. He was lying on his side and blinking boredly at the petals. He had been doing this for a while now. He was a little concerned about what [Name] was doing and why she was ignoring him.
He heard Alexander’s car drive up to the house and figured whatever he needed wasn’t important. He stretched and looked at the last petal on the sunflower. He shot a dirty look at the flower and sighed. He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked downstairs with a bored expression.
“Nikolai?” An unfamiliar voice said. “Why are you sad?”
He looked up and saw you standing at the door while Alexander walked by with your bags. Nikolai ran over to hug you. He didn’t care why you were here or anything of the like. He was just happy to see you in person.
“She loves me…” He muttered.
