Check On It – Beyoncé
You need to stop playing round with all them clowns and the wangstas
Good girls gotta get down with them gangstas
Go head girl put some back and some neck up on it
While I stand up in the background and check up on it
“Al! Just go for it!” Matthew urged.
“I know but…” Alfred stammered.
“If you don’t someone else will.” Yao hinted.
“Who?” Alfred asked, feeling a little antsy.
“You know who.” Yao said as he nodded his head towards a certain Brit.
Alfred balled his fists and tried to think of something. Yao hit him in the head and shook his finger. Alfred looked at his brother, Matthew, with a confused look then back at Yao.
“Don’t think!” He said. “Do!”
Ohh Boy you looking like you like what you see
Won't you come over and check up on it, I'm gone let you work up on it
Ladies let em check up on it, watch it while he check up on it
Dip it, pop it, twork it, stop it, check on me tonight
You and your friends walked around school as you gossiped about all that happened during the day. You looked around as you all laughed about something and saw Arthur walking up to you. You sighed and tried to ignore him.
“Hey, [Name].” He smiled.
The girls around you giggled and then pretended to look in the other direction. They carefully looked over to see what would happen from the corners of their eyes.
“Leave me alone, Arthur.” You said, trying to walk away from him. He ran in front of you as you tried to turn into a hallway.
“You don’t even know what I’m going to say.” He urged. You sighed and looked down. You shook your head then looked up at him with a disinterested look.
“You know there’s a dance th-“
“No.” You said and walked around him.
If you got it, flaunt it, boy I know you want it
While I turn around you watch me check up on it
Oohhh you watchin me shake it, I see it in ya face
Ya can't take it, it's blazin, you watch me in amazement
You can look at it, as long as you don't grab it
If you don't go braggin, I'ma let you have it
You think that I'm teasin, but I ain't got no reason
I'm sure that I can please ya, but first I gotta read you
You continued into your next class and cursed yourself as you forgot you had Arthur in a majority of your classes. You sat down next to your friend, Alfred. You were happy he wasn’t crazy about the whole dance thing either. Which was in a couple of days and you didn’t have a date, but that didn’t matter. You didn’t want to go with Arthur. He was a friend of yours but that was it. Nothing special about it.
“I’m glad you’re not crazy about the dance, Al.” You smiled.
“Well, Mattie said he wanted to go with someone but he doesn’t have the courage to ask them out.” Alfred laughed.
“Really?” You said. “Who’s the lucky girl?”
You were a little surprised his face turned pink. You raised a brow before he started rambling on about one of your friends.
Ohh Boy you looking like you like what you see
Won't you come over and check up on it, I'm gone let you work up on it
Ladies let em check up on it, watch it while he check up on it
Dip it, pop it, twork it, stop it, check on me tonight
Another couple of days passed and Arthur was still trying to get you to go out with him. Sure it was only a matter of time before you might agree just to shut him up. But still, it was annoying. You were glad that Alfred wasn’t annoying the crap out of you about it, which you found a little od since he asked practically every girl but you.
You walked over to the cafeteria with one of your friends. You were a little jealous that she found someone to go with and found Arthur again. You hid behind her and wished he would go away. You both quickly got your lunches and ran to somewhere he wouldn’t find you, which was outside the cafeteria.
“So, Mattie asked you out?” You asked.
“Yeah! I was a little surprised.” She squealed.
You both started to chat about the dance and what might happen. You felt a pang of regret. Maybe you should have accepted Arthur’s invitation to go with him. At least that way you wouldn’t be alone or anything.
I can tell you wanna taste it, but I'm gone make you chase it
You got to be patient, I like my men patient
More patience, you take might get you in more places
You can't be abrasive, have to know to pace it
If I let you get up on it, you gotta make a promise
That you gone put it on me, like no one’s put it on me
Don't bore me, just show me, all men talk but don't please
I can be a tease, but I really wanna please you
So it was the night of the dance and you walked in with your friend, who had Mattie around her waist. He seemed really happy to be with her too and you were a little jealous of that attention. You sighed and looked around. Everyone looked like they were still in school, as it was a casual event and all. You looked around and found that Arthur was actually here with someone. You felt hopeless as you watched them walk off into the gym.
You walked over towards the bathroom and sighed. You didn’t see any point going into a gymnasium full of couples only to be the odd one out. So you were bored until your friend dragged you inside the gym with her and Mattie. You stayed near the bleachers where you wouldn’t be noticed by most of the people there.

Won't you come over and check up on it, I'm gone let you work up on it

“Go Alfred!” Yao said.
“What if she wants to be alone?” Alfred shrugged.
“What girl wants to be alone?” Yao frowned. “Go to her or I’ll make you!”
Alfred looked over to you and gulped.
I'm checking on you boo, do what chu do
And while dance I'ma glance at this beautiful view
I'm keep my hands in my pants, I need to glue em w/ glue
I'm in a trance all eyes on you and your crew
Me and my mans don't dance, but to feel ya'll bump and grind
It won't hurt if you gone try one time
They all hot, but let me see this one’s mine
Its slim thug and DC outta H town
Alfred walked over to you with his head held high. He was going to ask you to dance with him and that was that! He felt so pumped as he walked over and played the scenario in his head several times: Hey babe, wanna go dance with yours truly? …All right, maybe not like that but he still thought about it.
As he got closer to you, he became a little more jittery and a little more unsure. You gulped and as he felt butterflies in his stomach and his bravado disappear at the same time. You looked over at him and everything went away. He awkwardly walked up to you and looked around.
“Hey, Al.” You smiled.
“H-hey.” He replied.
“W-would you… umm…” He said nervously.
“Is something wrong?” You asked.
“L-like to be my… uh…” He continued stammer with his words. His face was flustered and red and it made him look absolutely adorable!
Alfred tried his best to not look at you as he tried to think of what he was trying to say. His face contorted into a confused look and he tried to think of something to say that wouldn’t make him sound like an idiot or stupid. He sat up and sighed and then looked you dead in the face.
“Will you go out there and dance with me?” He said, pointing to the gym floor.
You were shocked that he just randomly said something out of the blue then realized a little bit that he did have a crush on you. You looked around. At least it wasn’t Arthur who was trying to ask you out again. You looked over at him and smiled.
“Yes!” You smiled and ran off to go to the funky chicken with him.

Ah, the dance. One of the most difficult things in life.
